Carlotta: Branding a Canberra Cucina
A Mediterranean brand, served fresh.
Carlotta offers the Italo-Mediterranean experience through a distinctly Australian expression. Lucas Restaurants and restauranteur Chris Lucas came to us with the vision of a casual-yet-elevated restaurant that appeals to the wide clientele of the vibrant Canberra dining scene. We delivered the entire brand identity including brand voice, visual identity, bespoke logo, art direction and artwork for the venue’s walls.
The brand’s logo and wordmark feature exaggerated, idiosyncratic typography, bespoke in nature and inspired by hand-drawn signage from 1950s Italian cucina. The rounded, oversized letters subtly reference Italian dining staples—plates, mozzarella, and more—serving as a playful nod to the restaurant’s culinary roots.
Italian Green was chosen as the signature colour, evoking traditional trattoria interiors while grounding Carlotta’s warm, inviting atmosphere. We also curated and delivered the wall art for the space. The theme highlights the contrast between classic Mediterranean and contemporary Australian culture. Each work playfully develops Carlotta’s personality, merging its influences with a touch of humour and a modernist approach.
